Event Description


The RapidBus program was developed as part of the Mayor's 10-year Vision to bring faster, more frequent, and reliable transit service in the Lower Mainland. The R3 specifically, is a new route that has been introduced and connects Coquitlam Station with Haney Place in Maple Ridge.

About the Event


This presentation will provide an overview of the planning and implementation of the R3 RapidBus Route between Coquitlam Termini Skytrain Station and Haney Place Transit Exchange in Maple Ridge. Our presentation will walk you through the supporting policies, objectives, and operational challenges involved in implementing a new service, with infrastructure upgrades through multiple municipal and provincial jurisdictions.

Simon Lee, P.Eng.

Simon Lee, P.Eng., is a professional engineer and the Division Manager of the Project Delivery group with R.F. Binnie and Associates. Simon completed his Bachelor of Applied Science in Civil Engineering with the University of British Columbia. Simon has experience in providing project management services for a variety of projects ranging from structural rehabilitation and residential construction to infrastructure capital and rehabilitation projects with provincial government and municipal clients. Simon was retained by TransLink to act as the Owner’s Rep and Senior Project Manager for the delivery of the RapidBus Program along the R2, R3, and R4 routes.

Denis Agar

Denis Agar has been a transit planner at TransLink for 7 years. He has been involved with the RapidBus program since inception and has previously worked on the new bus network that accompanied SkyTrain’s Evergreen Extension. Today, he works on delivering further bus speed and reliability improvements to RapidBus routes and identifying tweaks for local routes through the Bus Stop Balancing program. He has an undergraduate degree in urban planning from Ryerson University in Toronto and a Master’s of Sustainable Transportation from the University of Washington.

Cozmin Radu, P.Eng., MSc

A professional engineer with 24 years of experience and a proven track record in the field of Civil Engineering and Project Management. As a Transportation Engineer, Cozmin has developed expertise in planning, design, procurement, constructability, and management of major capital projects that integrate multiple modes of transportation such as vehicular, rail, LRT, and transit system. His passion for sustainable, safer and fully integrated modes of transportations to support thriving economies and an enhanced natural environment made him the technical driving force for the B Line Project.
