Join the Tri-City Branch to learn about the different ways FRP is being used during the rehabilitation process of existing buildings in BC.

About the Event

Dr. Mahmoud Ramezankhani, P.Eng.

Technical Director at Hexa Engineering

Mahmoud is the Technical Director for Hexa Engineering, with over 29 years of experience in structural engineering (in UK, South Africa, Iran, and Canada). He specializes in conceptual and detailed design, construction, and project management of steel and concrete post-tensioned bridges, structural strengthening, and seismic retrofit using CFRP system. He completed his B.Sc., M.Sc., and PhD, in the UK from University of Glamorgan, Surrey, and Bristol respectively. Mahmoud has published over 12 research papers in various journals in UK, USA, and Canada in the field of time-dependant behaviour of post-tensioned segmental bridges; thermal behaviour of concrete post-tensioned segmental bridges; instrumentation, remote monitoring, and full-scale testing of bridges; inspection, monitoring, and rehabilitation of post—tensioned concrete bridges. He worked with several consulting engineers and contractors in UK, South Africa, Iran, and Canada, such as ACER Freeman Fox, Gifford & Partners, Atkins Group Plc in UK, Alamoot Bridge & Building Co. (Partner), Farbar Consulting Engineers in Iran, Buckland & Taylor Ltd., FTGC Constructors, and HEXA Engineering in Vancouver, BC.

Fred Tai, P.Eng.

Director of Engineering at Simpson Strong-Tie Canada

Fred Tai is the Director of Engineering for Simpson Strong-Tie Canada where he has worked for the last 18 years. He manages a team of engineers based in Canada that provide technical support and creates technical literature that references the local building and design codes. He has an extensive background in structural engineering and worked as a structural consultant in building designs prior to joining Simpson Strong-Tie. During his career, he was involved in ASTM Wood Standards Technical Committee and Engineers and Geoscientists BC Building Code Committee. He has a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in civil engineering from the University of British Columbia, Canada, and is a licensed engineer in Canada.
