Event Description


This 1-hour session will explore the theoretical understanding of conflict as a cycle of threat and defend. Participants will be introduced to the basic neuroscience of threat and why maintaining curiosity is a critical strategy for constructively engaging in conflict. The session also dives into key skills of noticing, empathy, and inquiry.

About the Event


Presenter

Cynthia Lu, MA, RPF, P.Ag., is a forestry consultant based in Campbell River. She holds a MA in conflict analysis and management from Royal Roads University. Cynthia works across the province in the areas of forest development planning and certification auditing. She is currently a sessional instructor at North Island College in the Coastal Forest Technology Diploma Program. In 2021, Cynthia co-developed an online learning module, Introduction to Conflict Management, which is now a required element of the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals articling program. Cynthia is also a part-time member of the Forest Appeals Commission.
