October 2014, FortisBC started construction of a $400 million expansion project at Tilbury. This includes building a new storage tank and additional liquefaction equipment. This additional equipment will help meet the growing LNG demands of the transportation sector, remote communities, and industry in BC. We anticipate this equipment will be in service in Q1 2018. The expanded facility will be able to liquefy an additional 34,000 GJ (1500 cubic metres) of natural gas per day and will add 1.1 million GJ (46000 cubic metres) of additional storage capacity.

Rob Dunsmore is the Project Director, Tilbury LNG Implementation for FortisBC. He has worked in the hydro electric and natural gas utility for 30 years. Over this span he has been involved in the Operations, Maintenance, and Capital projects. Some of the projects that he has taken a lead role are refurbishment and upgrade of FortisBC and client hydroelectric generation plants, new Substation and line construction. Most notably the Waneta Expansion project on the Pend ‘Oreille river in southeast BC and currently Tilbury LNG Expansion in Delta BC.
