I am a P.Geo., currently working at an engineering consultant firm in downtown Vancouver. My work experience has been broad reaching, with a particular focus on mining and infrastructure projects. My area of expertise is geochemical characterization studies, including waste rock and tailings management. I am graduate of the UBC Geological Sciences program. My area of interest in mentoring a new geologist or engineer would be to provide insight into the consulting world and help support career path planning. Throughout my eight years of work experience in the consulting environment I have been exposed to multiple disciplines and industries and feel that I can help a young geologist or engineer understand the various types of work that they may become involved in. I have always enjoyed acting as a mentor to summer students and new hires that we bring on and want to expand beyond my organization to help others.

Although available for more technical-based mentoring (control and instrumentation - oil & gas, pulp & paper, mining), here are areas of preference where I can provide solid support: - Communications and conflict resolution, through gaining insights of your own style. - Building confidence. - Making better choices. - Career management and planning, i.e. "what I would have like to know when I started to work as an engineer" (when I still had hair in my case). - Work-life balance. I also work well with internationally-trained engineers/technologists who are now living in Canada.

I used to be chair of APEGBC Mentoring committee and am currently on the Mentoring Committee. I am interested in helping ensure P.Eng/s with 5-10 years of experience are teamed up with more senior members so as to help in their advancement and "Passing on the Batton", so to speak

I am an Associate Professor in Electrical Engineering with the School of Engineering at The University of British Columbia in Kelowna, British Columbia. My expertise is in electronic materials and devices. I am interested in mentoring professionals in the local area, hopefully generating further interest in the profession as a whole. In addition, I would like to see if I could try to spark interest in the profession of engineering in the broader public. This seems to be missing at present.
