In late 2018, the provincial government introduced new legislation that would enable regulation of engineering and geoscience firms in BC. The Professional Governance Act introduces new regulatory tools and standards, including corporate regulation—an issue Engineers and Geoscientists BC has been examining since 2015. The Act will be implemented in stages over time, but government has indicated that corporate regulation will be one of the first regulations developed.
Our Advisory Task Force on Corporate Practice
is currently examining the appropriate level of regulatory oversight for sole practitioners. We encourage members—in particular, sole practitioners—to learn more about this issue at our February 13 webinar, Corporate Regulation: What You Need to Know
. This webinar will address key questions, important developments, the anticipated impacts of the new Act
, and how sole practitioners will participate in a corporate regulatory model.
Engineers and Geoscientists BC continues to develop its model for corporate regulation, to advise government on what would work best.
