GHG Quantification and Verification Opportunities in BC and Canada: Part 3

Date Recorded: May/11/2020

Annually, nearly 1,000 businesses (reporters) across Canada are required to quantify and report their GHG emissions to Environment and Climate Change Canada and their provincial counterparts. Some of these businesses engage the services of consultants to help them gather the required information and to quantify and report the GHG emissions. Since 2007, some of these businesses were also required to have their GHG emission reports verified by a third party. Related to these activities, an offsetting market has sprung up in many jurisdictions involving offset project developers, businesses that have the potential to generate offsets, technology providers, and more consultants and verifiers.

The audience will have these key takeaways by attending this session:

  • Understand some basic drivers of the market – why quantify and verify GHG emissions?
  • Understand the market-place structure – the jurisdictions, the reporters, verifiers, offset project developers, the accreditation bodies, etc.
  • Know where the jurisdictions url is and what information can be found there.
  • Understand where the market is, who are some of the payers and where the market is going.
  • Understand what roles Engineers and Geoscientists BC is playing and will play as a regulator.
