Construction Law for Consultants

Instructed by Beth Allard, a senior litigator specializing in engineering and construction matters, participants will learn about the critical contractual terms and your obligations under standard form construction contracts during the construction phase, strategies to resolve disputes during construction, schedule and delay claim issues and strategies to minimize the impact of delays, dealing with changes, dealing with deficiencies, and a brief review of the obligations owed by consultants under the Builder's Lien Act. This seminar will focus on specific issues relevant to consultants with primary or significant responsibility for project administration and completion.

Beth Allard, LLB
Beth is experienced counsel in various commercial disputes involving complex contractual, tortious and regulatory legal issues, providing both litigation advice and negotiating successful and strategic resolutions. She regularly advises and assists clients on matters relating to tendering, procurement, project delivery and management, liens and dispute resolution. Beth’s practice also covers a range of liability defense work for design professionals, financial professionals, directors and officers, health-care professionals and various associations. She also counsels regulatory bodies with respect to core regulatory obligations, internal governance, relationships with stakeholders and agreements with external providers.
 
Beth has lectured and written extensively on various legal topics, including being an adjunct professor in civil procedure at the UBC law school. Beth is the author of “Contribution and Apportionment” in CLEBC’s British Columbia Business Disputes, and is a regular contributor to CLEBC’s Builders Lien Practice Manual.
