Working in Canada: Key Competencies for Engineers and Geoscientists

The Working in Canada Seminar is a self-directed online course developed for internationally trained engineers to improve their understanding of and readiness to engage in the practice of professional engineering in a Canadian workplace environment. Designed to address key skills, competencies, and customs commonly expected within the Canadian engineering workplace, it is a resource for all who intend to practice professional engineering in Canada and a tool for employers to support the development of their skilled workforce.

MICHELLE CHENG

ENGINEERS AND GEOSCIENTISTS BC

Michelle Cheng is the Project Manager of Registration at Engineers and Geoscientists BC. She manages foreign qualifications recognition initiatives. Her work focuses on helping internationally trained professionals address the barriers they face practising engineering and geoscience in Canada. By working with professional members, applicants, the Province of BC, immigrant-serving agencies, and other regulatory bodies across Canada, her projects integrate different perspectives to examine policies and to develop alternative pathways for internationally trained professionals to meet the requirements for professional licensure while upholding the high academic and experience standards for all applicants and members.

Michelle has been with Engineers and Geoscientists BC since 2012 with prior experience working with global engineering teams in the finance sector. She obtained her Bachelor of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Information Systems and Finance.
