Event Description


In September 2023, Engineers and Geoscientists BC published a practice advisory on Professional Conduct Between Submitting Professionals and Authorities Having Jurisdiction. This practice advisory addresses common communication challenges that arise between Submitting Professionals and AHJs during the approval and/or submissions processes. This webinar will provide an overview of the content of the advisory including practical considerations related to communication issues, and some lessons learned through situations we've handled through practice advice inquiries.

Alice Kruchten, P.Eng.

Alice is a registered professional engineer and Practice Advisor with Engineers and Geoscientists BC. In her current role, Alice is responsible for managing the development of the organization's professional practice guidelines, engaging with various stakeholders to address professional practice concerns, and for providing advice to registrants regarding practice issues. Alice is an environmental engineer with 8 years' experience in civil engineering and environmental consulting in BC. She holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (in Civil Engineering), and a Master of Engineering Leadership (in Integrated Water Management Engineering), both from the University of British Columbia.

Trevor Welsh, RBO, CRBO

Vice-President and Treasurer, Building Officials Association of BC

Trevor attended the British Columbia Institute of Technology to study construction technologies. He began his career as a Building Official working for the District of North Vancouver in the role of Plan Reviewer. Following this, he moved to the City of Port Moody as a Building Official, which involved working as a Plan Reviewer and Building Inspector while also conducting plumbing inspections and plan reviews. Trevor has also held various supervisory and managerial roles with local government. As well, he has worked as an instructor with the British Columbia Institute of Technology, instructing on building code courses. He is currently the Director, Building Permits and Licences with the City of Abbotsford. Trevor obtained his Registered Building Official designation as well his Level 2 plumbing official certification in 2017.Trevor has served on the Building Officials’ Association of BC’s Executive Committee since 2019. During this time, he has held the positions of Secretary and Treasurer within the Executive Committee, and he currently serves as one of the Vice-Presidents of the Association.
