This Metro Vancouver award-winning Waste-to-Energy Facility can sustain approximately 25% of Metro Vancouver's post-recycled waste, mainly from the North Shore, Burnaby, and New Westminster. This facility keeps waste out of landfills by diverting more than 281,000 tons of waste annually. Less waste in landfills reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 196,000 tons of CO2. That's like taking 38,000 passenger vehicles off the road for one year. The facility produces 24 megawatts of electricity 24/7—enough to power 17,000 homes for a year. It also recovers 6,200 tons of metal for recycling annually—enough to build 5,000 cars.
