Bridge Building Instructions

Construct the strongest bridge with 100 craft sticks (a paper bridge deck, if desired) and white school glue. The design and construction of the bridge is up to the participant(s).

Please refer to the below contest package:

Bridge Building Specifications

  • Maximum of 100 standard craft sticks per bridge.
  • Craft sticks must be left whole (no cutting, grinding or sanding).
  • Standard all-purpose white glue only (such as Titan School Glue or Elmer's School Glue).
  • Bridge dimensions:
    • Length 550 mm to 660 mm
    • Width 50 mm or greater
    • Height 450 mm or less
  • The testing machine applies a load to the bridge with a 50 mm diameter disc (a 50 mm square flat spot at the bridge midpoint is recommended to distribute the load but is not strictly necessary).
  • Architectural designs (such as colour and glitter) are permitted.
  • Wet glue adds unnecessary weight and reduces strength.
  • Each participants' name should be written on submitted bridges with a Sharpie marker.
