2017 Science Summer Camp Highlights

Spring has officially arrived and, with it, thoughts of a not-so-distant summer season filled with sun, fun and relaxation. However, parents may have other thoughts—“How am I going to entertain my kids for two months?” or “What can both entertain and educate them while school is out?”

Luckily, a number of science-themed summer camps are ramping up around BC to entertain children and showcase the fun side of science.

Below are a few options. Limited spaces may be available—register soon!


Location: Kamloops, Merrit, Revelstoke, Lillooet, Barriere, Salmon Arm, Nicola Valley, Canoe Creek Band

EUReKA! organizes week-long summer camps for students to explore various themes, including the Codemakers Technology camp. Most EUReKA! camps are based at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops; however, several of their camps travel to nearby locations to engage students.

Geering Up! UBC

Location: Vancouver, Surrey and Kelowna

Geering Up is a non-profit organization designed, organized and operated by UBC students with a goal of promoting science, engineering and technology to youth. They organize week-long, themed science summer camps—for example, their Maker Style camps focus on design and technology.

North Island College Bot Camps

Location: Comox, Campbell River, Port Alberni, Port Hardy, Tofino/Uculet and Gold River

For the second year, North Island College is organizing a series of Bot Camps during the summer. At these camps, students will have the opportunity to build, program, and control Lego robots in an interactive environment.

NS3’s Summer Science Camps

Location: Nanaimo

The Nanaimo Science and Sustainability Society (NS3) hosts several summer camps during July and August. Themes for this year include Wild About Science: Eco-Camp, S.T.E.A.M.punk! (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math), LEGOmania, and more. Science Alliance

Location: Prince George

For the 21st year, Science Alliance is offeingr summer science camps at The Exploration Place in Prince George. These camps allow students to explore the world of science through hands-on activities, demonstrations, and field trips.

Science Venture

Location: Victoria

Science Venture has been showcasing the fun side of science to students since 1991. This year, their camps include maker camps, space camps, coding camps, and a new STEMu camp, where attendees will explore the University of Victoria’s facilities for various science departments, such as physics, chemistry, and biology.

Summer Science Camps at Science World

Location: Vancouver

During the summer, Science World offers a number of science camps. This year, their camps capitalize on the theme of Science World’s feature exhibit, Made in Canada, and will allow kids to build their maker skills with a focus on tinkering and inventing.
