Association Program Needs New Mentors

Posted on 06 March 2018

Engineers and Geoscientists BC offers a mentorship program in which experienced, licensed professionals transfer their skills and knowledge to aspiring and current professional members.

The mentorship program currently has over 1,000 members, with 200 matches made last year. As the program has increased in popularity, so has the demand for mentors—last year, over 75 percent of new participants were mentees. For the mentoring program’s success to continue, the association needs the help of its licensed professional members.

Mentors can have a positive effect on the careers of less experienced practitioners and, in the process, enhance their own leadership and coaching skills, gain professional development credits, and help shape the professions for future generations. The association uses an online matching tool that allows both mentees and mentors to view member profiles, and they can make match requests based not only on industry and expertise, but also on the type of mentorship being offered. This can include advice on networking, career counselling, the registration process, and retirement planning.
