Board Election Results Announced

Engineers and Geoscientists BC registrants elected two new Board members and re-elected a current Board member in the 2024/25 Board election.

The election, held August 7 to September 6, 2024, returned Dr. Jens Weber, P.Eng., to the Board for a second term and welcomed new members Dr. Gordon Zhou, P.Eng. and Dr. Malcolm Shield, M.Eng., P.Eng. The three members will each serve a three-year term.

Weber, who has served one term on the Board, is the Associate Dean, Professional Programs, Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, at the University of Victoria. At Engineers and Geoscientists BC, he has been a member of the Governance Sub-Committee, Audit Sub-Committee, and the Software Engineering Advisory Group. He is the co-author of the Practice Guideline on Safety Critical Software.

Zhou is the Director of Rail Extension Integration in the engineering division at TransLink. At Engineers and Geoscientists BC, he is currently Vice Chair of the Professional Practice Advisory Group and was a member of the Continuing Education Advisory Group.

Shield is Vice President, Sustainability, at Wesgroup Properties, and he is currently the Chair of the Engineers and Geoscientist BC Climate Change and Sustainability Advisory Group and has been involved with the Climate Change Advisory Group since 2012. His professional experience has focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and managing climate risk through technology, regulation, and policy.

Inaugural Board Meeting

The first meeting for the 2024/25 Board takes place on October 17. The new Board Chair and Vice Chair will be selected at that time by the Board.
