Discipline Notice: Seyed-Ahmad Pishvaei, P.Eng.
In 2020, Dr. Pishvaei was retained to remediate glass guardrails on several residential buildings after they did not pass an inspection by a building official (the Project). The calculations Dr. Pishvaei prepared for the Project were deficient and failed to comply with several building code requirements and applicable Canadian Glass Codes that regulate glass guard rails in Canada.
In the Consent Order, Dr. Pishvaei admitted that he demonstrated unprofessional conduct related to the Project and that he acted contrary to the Engineers and Geoscientists BC Code of Ethics. Dr. Pishvaei agreed that, among other things, he:
- prepared and sealed the calculations without having sufficient information including the architectural and structural drawings for the Project;
- failed to contact the professional who prepared the initial design drawings for the Project in order to take over the responsibility as Engineer of Record; and
- failed to provide a reasonable explanation as to why he departed from the Canadian Glass Codes for the Project.
During the suspension period, Dr. Pishvaei must successfully complete and pass the Professional Engineering and Geoscientists BC Practice in BC online seminar.
Six months after the suspension period concludes, Dr. Pishvaei must undergo a practice review conducted by the Engineers and Geoscientists BC Audit and Practice Review Committee. Dr. Pishvaei must successfully complete a structural engineering educational course within 12 months of the date of the Consent Order.
