Guide Outlines New Continuing Education Obligations

Posted on January 31, 2021

The Professional Governance Act requires Engineers and Geoscientists BC to develop and implement a mandatory Continuing Education (CE) Program. To help registrants understand their new requirements and obligations, we’ve published the Guide to the Continuing Education Program on our website, at egbc.ca/Continuing-Education.

All registrants should consult and be familiar with this guide, which describes the CE Program requirements in detail, including the amount and types of CE activities that registrants are required to undertake to maintain competency. It also contains an annual compliance checklist, a template for the annual CE Plan, and an exemption request form.

The CE Program will come into effect on July 1, 2021; the first reporting deadline will be June 30, 2022.

For 2021, registrants can apply continuing education activities completed between January 1 and June 30 to the first reporting year of the new CE Program. Registrants will need to maintain their own records during this period, and insert the activities into the new online recording system when it becomes available by July 1.
