INWED Recognizes Women's Contribution to Engineering
Each year, on June 23, International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) serves as a reminder of the vital contributions of women in the engineering profession.

“On INWED, we honour the women in engineering who paved the way with courage and conviction and who continue to pursue the path forward,” says Sneha Satheendran, Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s Manager of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. “Let’s also recognize the allies who champion women in engineering. Progress is only possible when we walk this path together.”

This year’s theme for INWED is Together We Engineer, which reminds us that progress is not a solo journey; it’s a shared commitment.

While women represent more than half of Canada’s population, their representation in engineering remains disproportionately low. Retention also presents continued challenges.

“At Engineers and Geoscientists BC, as a part of the new Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Truth and Reconciliation (EDIT&R) Working Group, we have a Women in the Professions sub-group committed to championing for change,” said Satheendran.

In line with the INWED initiative, on June 25, Engineers and Geoscientists BC will host a webinar titled “Empowering and Championing Women Leaders in Engineering and Geoscience” that explores how we can empower and champion women leaders — not just in title, but in action. The session will explore statistical trends and offer proactive strategies to support women in the profession.
