New Continuing Education Course: EDI for Engineers and Geoscientists

Posted on May 5, 2022

A new continuing education (CE) course is available for registrants looking for more guidance on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in the engineering and geoscience professions. Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion for Engineers and Geoscientists is a free, self-paced online course that will help registrants develop competencies in inclusive behaviours and emotional intelligence.

EDI in engineering and geoscience means fostering professional environments and relationships that welcome and support diversity and enable all professionals to contribute to their full potential without barriers or discrimination. This includes people who are part of one or more equity-seeking groups that have been historically, persistently, and systemically marginalized in Canadian society, including  LGBTQ2S+ persons, Indigenous people, Black people, people of colour, and persons with disabilities.

This course will provide participants with knowledge and skills in cultural and emotional intelligence, and inclusive behaviour, and includes:

  • Why and how EDI is relevant to engineering and geoscience;
  • EDI core concepts and terms;
  • Unconscious bias;
  • Inclusive behaviours and competencies; and
  • Tips to turn theory into practice.

This course is free to all engineers and geoscientists across Canada through the Engineers and Geoscientists BC Knowledge Centre. Non-registrants can also access the course by creating a new account before completing the checkout process. The course is eligible for 1 Continuing Education Hour of Ethical Learning. Upon successful completion, you will receive a certificate of completion.
