Engineers and Geoscientists BC plans to develop professional practice guidelines for annual inspections of mobile equipment in BC, with funding support from WorkSafeBC.
Currently, under the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations (OHSR) administered by WorkSafeBC, certain types of mobile equipment must undergo annual inspections. Annual inspections are required for equipment such as cranes and hoists, concrete pumps, movable work platforms, and aerial devices/ladders used by firefighters. Professional engineers are often involved in conducting such inspections.
These new professional practice guidelines aim to establish a consistent approach to carrying out mobile equipment inspections in BC, and will provide guidance to members in meeting their obligations under the Engineers and Geoscientists Act, and OHSR in carrying out this type of work.
Work on the guidelines will start this fall and is expected to be completed by Fall 2019.
