On June 13, Engineers and Geoscientists BC is hosting a free panel discussion webinar on sustainability initiatives and how professionals can create a sustainable future through local action.
This event is part of an ongoing event series on climate change and sustainability, hosted annually by the organization’s Sustainability Advisory Group and different BC branches.
Registration is open until Friday, June 9, and the event is eligible for one Continuing Education hour of technical learning.
The panelists and hosts for this event are:
- Facilitator and panelist: Dr. Nancy Olewiler, Professor, School of Public Policy, Simon Fraser University
- Co-host: Dr. Thomas Elliot, P.Geo., Chair, Sustainability Advisory Group, along with representatives from the Vancouver branch
- Panelists:
- Dr. George Abbott, Adjunct Professor, University of Victoria
- Tina Neale, Executive Director, BC Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness
- Brent Burton, P.Eng., FEC, Division Manager, Liquid Waste Services, Metro Vancouver
The panel will cover topics including:
- current climate and disaster risk reduction and resiliency initiatives;
- tools and support available to access information on existing risks and improving resiliency; and
- what registrants need to know about resilience initiatives and delivering on risk reduction in BC.
The event will also include content on Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s Professional Practice Guidelines on Sustainability, with its newest revision published in April 2023.
