Branches are regional groups of Engineers and Geoscientists BC registrants. Branch Executives are volunteers who serve as the regional connection to Engineers and Geoscientists BC leadership. Tours, seminars, and other events are organized by the branches year-round to create opportunities for continuing education, career awareness, outreach, and networking.


One of our greatest strengths lies in our outstanding volunteers. The active participation and engagement of over 1,000 volunteers enables Engineers and Geoscientists BC to meet its mandate. By volunteering, you will bring your unique perspective and expertise to enhance and bring value to the work being done by your branch.


Entry-level roles that will allow you to gain experience with your local branch include event volunteer and event coordinator. This provides the necessary experience required to move into executive roles such as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice Chair, and Chair of the branch.

Committee volunteers report to Branch Chair

Duties and Expectations

  • Advise Council of local registrants’ views of current issues or initiatives;
  • Coordinate events; and
  • Organize local continuing education opportunities.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Registered with Engineers and Geoscientists BC in one of the following capacities: professional engineer (P.Eng.), professional geoscientist (P.Geo.), trainee (EIT/GIT), Engineers and Geoscientists BC professional licensee, or Student. Once you become a registrant of the organization, please feel free to re-apply;
  • Ability to work well individually and as part of a team;
  • Possess a pleasant, polite, and friendly demeanour;
  • Ability to plan events;
  • An organized, team player that interacts well with others; and
  • Ability to run meetings and lead teams is an asset.

Term of Office

  • Each position is 1-year term renewable.

Average Time Commitment

  • A few hours a month to a few hours per week depending on the time of year and assistance needed;
  • Attendance at branch executive meetings or teleconferences 3–7 times per year; and
  • Attendance at branch events as necessary.
Please note: Time commitment depends on the level of assistance required by the branch and is primarily driven by the number of events and the frequency of events that the branch is hosting. There will also be an added requirement during peak months when branches hold various events and activities.

During peak periods, this may be as much as 5–10 hours per week for 2–3 weeks straight. During regular periods, you may only be required for as few as 5–10 hours in total for assistance with a particular event.

Measures of Success

The successful volunteer will:

  • Provide support and assistance where needed to gain experience that will allow you to potentially move into a lead role as an executive position.


  • Opportunity to advance the professions of engineer and geoscience;
  • Learn new skills;
  • Expand your business network; and
  • Be recognized as an Engineers and Geoscientists BC volunteer.
