Teams of students from Grades 1–6 explore the principles and theories of science first hand at the Science Games.
This interschool event is organized by the Engineers and Geoscientists BC as part of National Engineering and Geoscience Month (NEGM). We are the regulatory body for engineers and geoscientists practicing in BC.
The goal of this event is to provide a fun environment where students are able to showcase their science talent, and promote interest in science education and careers in scientific fields. The Science Games is an interactive science competition which allows students to investigate how science affects their everyday lives. Students work together on a set of applications or problem-solving challenges which demonstrate the interesting and entertaining side of scientific exploration.
This event is team-oriented and activities align with many areas of scientific study covered in school. Students work together and use their science skills and ideas to create original solutions to problems.
Each team should consist of 4–5 students and one coach who must be an adult, such as a teacher, parent, or Girl Guide/Scout Leader. The coach must be present on the day of the event. Team registration costs $25 per team.
Team registration is now closed. If you have entered a team into the lottery you will be contacted shortly with an update on your team status. For more information on how to register please visit our Science Games FAQ Page.
Students are placed into two divisions for competition.
- Division 1: Grades 1–3 (Science Games activities run from 8:00 AM–12:30 PM)
- Division 2: Grades 4–6 (Science Games activities run from 12:00 PM–4:45 PM)
There are two types of Science Games Challenges:
- Work-At-Home Events: These are made in advance and brought to the Science Games for testing and judging or practiced in advance and performed on the day of the Science Games.
- Mystery Events: These are solved the day of the Science Games and no pre-planning is needed.
