About the Event


  • Tissue Models: Human-like cancer tissue models for drug testing.
  • High-resolution 3D Bioprinter: Used for the fabrication of vascularization in vitro tissue models.
  • Bioinks: Print materials for biocompatible tissues.

Dr. Karolina Papera Valente

B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering, PhD in Mechanical Engineering

Dr. Karolina Papera Valente has deep expertise in tissue engineering, 3D bioprinting, and oncology. Karolina has published 13 peer-reviewed papers and is currently an Assistant Teaching Professor at the University of Victoria. She is also the CEO & CSO of VoxCell BioInnovation.

The Talbot Memorial Fund was established by the family of Richard Talbot, P.Eng., to honour his contribution to Engineering on Vancouver Island. The award will be presented to two either 3rd or 4th year University of Victoria Engineering students, based on a combination of factors including Community Activities, Academic Achievement, and student statement on how Engineering impacts society. A short virtual ceremony will take place to present two recipients with an award of $1,000 each. All proceeds will be donated to Talbot funds.
