Board Approves Organizational Truth and Reconciliation Strategy

Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s Board recently approved the first Organizational Truth and Reconciliation Strategy, marking a key milestone in the organization’s reconciliation journey and deepening a longstanding commitment.
As a regulatory body under the Professional Governance Act, Engineers and Geoscientists BC is committed to advancing reconciliation to support public safety and ethical practice. The strategy is informed by provincial and national reconciliation frameworks, and shaped by the organization’s regulatory responsibilities, the rights of Indigenous Peoples, and the values of the professions.
The strategy outlines four overarching goals that aim to provide support for registrants and improve how reconciliation is reflected in Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s regulatory practices and internal operations.
- Support for registrants and firms: Support with building competency and providing resources and guidance to advance reconciliation and culturally respectful engagement in engineering and geoscience practice.
- Regulatory processes: Integrate reconciliation principles and practices into regulatory processes to strengthen fairness, accountability, accessibility, and public trust.
- Organizational culture and operations: Foster an inclusive organizational culture where reconciliation principles are incorporated into staff development, internal practices, and workplace values.
- Influence and leadership: Lead and collaborate within the regulatory and professional landscape to advance coordinated reconciliation efforts and influence positive change.
The strategy will be implemented in a phased approach, informed by continued listening, learning, and engagement with Indigenous partners. Initial efforts will focus on developing action plans, sequencing priorities, and confirming accountability for each goal. A measurement and reporting framework will also be developed to support transparency and track progress over time. Updates will be shared with registrants and firms as action plans are developed and new resources become available.
