Survey Reveals Insights About the Annual Reporting Process
When registrants completed their Annual Reporting this year, more than 6,000 completed Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s follow-up survey about the process.

Results from the survey show most registrants found the process positive; more than 68% of respondents rated the overall reporting experience as “good” or “excellent.”

Respondents also offered suggestions for improving the annual process that Engineers and Geoscientists BC can use to shape the process going forward.

Three key themes emerged from the feedback. Registrants recommended:

  1. Integration of continuing education systems between provinces
  2. A simpler reporting workflow with fewer clicks and steps
  3. More support and examples for creating Continuing Education (CE) Plans across disciplines

“We appreciate the time registrants have taken to provide insightful feedback,” said Samantha Williams, Competency Program Coordinator at Engineers and Geoscientists BC. “It will continue to help us optimize our systems.”

More than 40,000 registrants – or 90% – completed their Annual Reporting by the June 30 deadline. The reporting is important as it ensures the organization has an accurate and up-to-date database. An accessible reporting process is crucial to making that happen.

Improving Integration with Other CE Programs

On the first key point of CE integration across the country, Engineers and Geoscientists BC has recognized the concern. To support registrants practising in multiple provinces, the organization accepts relevant CE activities completed in other jurisdictions. A bulk import tool was also introduced to reduce administrative burden.

The organization collaborates with other provincial and territorial regulators, including Engineers Canada and Geoscientists Canada, to align regulatory practices where possible, while respecting local legislation.

More information about standardizing regulatory requirements between jurisdictions can be found on this frequently asked questions page.

Enhancing the Reporting Experience

Work is currently underway to simplify the reporting workflow and to make navigation more intuitive.

“We notice registrants are requesting a more linear pathway and acknowledge we can make the navigation more intuitive. Registrants can now find direct links in the Account Dashboard that will connect them to CE modules and resources,” said Williams.

More Support for CE Plans

Registrants also requested more clarity and support around required CE plans. In response, additional sample CE Plans will be developed in various practice areas, and alternative methods for registrants to retain copies of their CE Plans will be considered.

A recorded webinar titled “How to Create a High-Quality CE Plan” is available from the Knowledge Centre and provides guidance for creating a CE Plan.

CE Program information sessions are available to support new registrants in understanding their requirements, including CE Plans, and the resources available to them. All registrants may participate in these sessions. Look for new sessions in the CE events calendar.
