Advisory Groups

Advisory Groups play a critical role in supporting Engineers and Geoscientists BC in fulfilling its regulatory responsibility to establish, monitor, and enforce standards of practice. Advisory Group members are volunteers who help maintain high standards of practice, safeguard public interest, and foster an adaptive and forward-thinking regulatory framework.

Structure and Function of Advisory Groups

There is one overarching Professional Practice Advisory Group and five supporting Advisory Groups that are divided into the following industry areas:

  • Built Environment
  • Climate Change and Sustainability
  • High Technology
  • Manufacturing and Equipment
  • Natural Resources and Natural Hazards

Each Advisory Group is composed of professionals and industry experts who bring diverse perspectives and expertise related to their areas of practice. A collaborative approach ensures that a wide range of voices are considered when addressing industry challenges and opportunities. Each Advisory Group provides advice and may make recommendations for discussion and consideration to the Professional Practice Advisory Group, which consists of up to two representatives from each Advisory Group, as well as members-at-large.

How Do Advisory Group Members Contribute?

Advisory Group members engage in a variety of tasks that support Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s regulatory function and contribute to the advancement of professional practice standards. Group members identify and discuss industry trends and challenges that relate to professional practice and assist with strategic initiatives. The Advisory Groups are also part of the Guidelines & Advisories Development Process, including prioritizing the developing or revision of guideline and advisory documents.
