Purpose
The purpose of the Joint Practice Panel (JPP) is to consider and make recommendations within Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) and Forest Professionals BC’s (FPBC) regulatory mandate under the Professional Governance Act regarding areas of joint practice between engineering, forestry, and/or geoscience and other matters referred to the panel by either regulator.
Reporting Structure
Members report and make recommendations to the practice directors or their delegate.
Duties and Expectations
The Members of the JPP are tasked with and responsible for:
- Identifying and helping prioritize professional practice interface issues and any associated matters.
- Providing recommendations or resolutions for issues arising from the practice interface.
- Acting as conduit to the registrant base and the regulators and assisting with development of standards and guidance documents, descriptive material, and continuing education material, including but not limited to, guidelines, advisories, webinars, and articles regarding any area of relevant regulatory practice.
- Seeking feedback from users of the guidance documents, not limited to FPBC and EGBC registrants, to ensure the guidance document(s) are effective.
- Assisting in development of processes that can be used as a model by other collaborative regulatory body joint working groups.
- Identifying lessons learned and implement recommendations to improve processes.
- When requested, providing professional and industry specific feedback on the drafting of codes, legislation, and policies as applicable.

Skills & Qualifications
Members should be a professional registrant with either Engineers and Geoscientists BC or FPBC with a minimum of 5 years of practising experience and have knowledge of and experience with the interactions between applied engineering, forestry, and geoscience professional practices. Additionally, panel members must demonstrate:
The ability to provide professional judgement – providing clear and objective opinions and feedback that prioritize the regulatory mandate to serve and protect the public interest with respect to the exercise of the professions;The ability to maintain confidentiality and Professionalism, by:
- being prepared to discuss relevant issues (through pre-read materials or otherwise),
- interacting and communicating with fellow Panel members and staff in a respectful and constructive manner;
- listening to, and exercising tolerance for, others’ perspectives,
- being adaptable, flexible, and open-minded,
- supporting Panel decisions once made.
Term of Office
Members are requested to serve on the JPP for a minimum of one two-year term and can serve up to a maximum of three consecutive terms.
Average Time Commitment
- The JPP will meet approximately 6 times a year, or at the direction of the practice directors or their delegates,
- Meetings will be 1-2 hours in duration, with the exception of one extended meeting which may be up to four hours.
- Approximately 1 hour of preparation per meeting may be required to review agenda items and prepare for discussion.
- Members are expected to participate in subgroups to work on guidelines, strategic initiatives, and other special projects as required.
- Meetings will be held virtually, with the exception of one extended meeting per year which may be held in-person.
