Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s Director, Registration, Gillian Pichler, P.Eng., FEC, FGC (Hon.), has announced her decision to retire this September. Gillian has been with the organization for 30 years, overseeing its licensing and registration accountabilities, and has been an integral part of its growth and development overall.
During her tenure with Engineers and Geoscientists BC, Gillian led many initiatives that have transformed Engineers and Geoscientists BC’s regulatory effectiveness, including the organization’s widely successful Competency-Based Assessment program, flexible processes for evaluating Canadian work experience competencies, and initiatives to strengthen inter-provincial and international mobility. She is also a sought-after expert on progressive approaches to licensure, often advising regulatory authorities in Canada and elsewhere.
“Gillian has been an incredible contributor to our organization,” said Ann English, P.Eng, FEC, FCSSE. “She has committed countless hours to efforts that have shaped our innovative approach to regulation, and she has done so with true care. When people think of Gillian, they think of someone who puts fairness at the forefront, and who is never too busy to take a moment to share her perspective or to offer a helping hand. Her thorough and thoughtful approach will be truly missed.”

Gillian thanked colleagues in BC and across Canada for their exemplary collaboration and commitment over the years. “Their dedication, support, and service have helped to make the impossible possible in so many ways, and I am honoured to have worked with them”, she said.
