Discipline Notice: Alan Devanshwar Adheesh Prahalad, P.Eng.

In a January 27, 2026, Consent Order, Alan Prahalad, P.Eng., admitted that he demonstrated unprofessional conduct in relation to the engineering services he provided for the structural design and construction of a residence in Burnaby. As of February 1, 2026, Mr. Prahalad’s registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC is suspended for three months.

Between 2019 and 2021, Mr. Prahalad provided engineering services as the Engineer of Record for the structural design of a residential duplex in Burnaby. In the course of the project, Mr. Prahalad designed a lateral load resisting system that did not meet the diaphragm design requirements of Part B of the Engineering Guide for Wood Construction 2014, despite stating on the structural drawings for the project that the lateral resistance of the building conformed to those requirements.

In the Consent Order, Mr. Prahalad admitted that he demonstrated unprofessional conduct relating to the project, and agreed that, among other things, he:

• failed to perform the necessary calculations to ensure the project was designed in accordance with the BC Building Code 2018, particularly by failing to ensure the foundation and parallam beams had adequate capacity;
• signed and sealed Schedule B and Schedule C-B Letters of Assurance in which he took professional responsibility for all structural elements of the project but failed to conduct field reviews of the sheathing;
• failed to ensure regular documented checks of his engineering work using a written quality control process appropriate to the risk associated with the work; and
• failed to ensure documented independent reviews were conducted of his structural designs generally by members or licensees having appropriate experience in designing structures of a similar type and scale, and who were not involved in preparing the designs.

As outlined in the Consent Order, prior to the end of his suspension, Mr. Prahalad must complete the Professional Engineering and Geoscientists Practice in BC Online Seminar and several Engineers and Geoscientists BC webinars.

Following the conclusion of his suspension period, Mr. Prahalad will be subject to direct supervision for a minimum of three months. Six months after the conclusion of the direct supervision period, Mr. Prahalad must undergo a practice review conducted by the Audit and Practice Review Committee.

Mr. Prahalad agreed to pay $8,000 towards the legal and investigative costs of Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
