Discipline Notice: Alexander Dainov

On October 24, 2025, a panel of the Discipline Committee found that Alexander Dainov demonstrated professional misconduct in relation to the structural design report he prepared for a geodesic dome in Nanaimo, BC.

In 2022, Mr. Dainov prepared a structural design report for a geodesic dome that was intended to be relied on in support of building permit applications for the City of Nanaimo. Mr. Dainov authenticated drawings for the report that contained a number of deficiencies including lacking dimensions, locations, and sizes of structural members and connections. Mr. Dainov prepared drawings for the report which were not complete for their intended purpose, did not contain the necessary information to construct the geodesic dome, and failed to comply with the BC Building Code. Additionally, the report lacked significant detail and depicted a functionally incomplete structural system.

On July 21-22, 2025, a panel of the Discipline Committee conducted a hearing concerning the conduct of Mr. Dainov. On October 24, 2025, the panel issued its decision finding that Mr. Dainov demonstrated professional misconduct contrary to the Professional Governance Act.

On January 6, 2026, the panel issued its decision on penalty and costs. Mr. Dainov’s registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC is cancelled. Mr. Dainov was ordered to pay $90,609.45 toward the legal costs of Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
