Government Confirms Pause on PST Expansion to Professional Services

On September 18, 2026, the BC government announced it has paused the planned expansion of PST to professional services – including engineering and geoscience services – in response to new and ongoing trade disruptions and economic uncertainty. The changes were originally scheduled to take effect on October 1, 2026.
The pause means that PST will not apply to engineering and geoscience services at this time. A future date for implementation has not yet been shared.
Registrants and firms that have already registered to collect PST should visit eTaxBC to request their registration be cancelled. To do so:
- Visit eTaxBC.ca to log into your account
- Select View Returns or View Account
- Select Close this Account and indicate "Registration not required" if prompted
