Engineers and Geoscientists BC has issued a revised version of the Professional Practice Guidelines – Geotechnical Engineering Services for Building Projects.
The guidelines, originally published in March 1998 and revised in September 2020 (version 2.0), guide engineering professionals who provide geotechnical engineering services for building projects. This revision provides updated guidance that outlines roles and responsibilities, the professional activities involved in these services, and Engineers and Geoscientists BC Bylaws regarding quality management.
This revision includes improvements from the previous version of the guidelines to reflect the modern standard of practice, and that conform to current codes and standards relevant to geotechnical services. This revision also clarifies the use of Letters of Assurance, including descriptions of the scope of Letters of Assurance line items that relate to geotechnical activities for engineering professionals active in this area of practice.
These guidelines, and other professional practice guidelines and practice-related resources, are provided at egbc.ca/Professional-Practice.
