Annual Reporting opens May 1, 2023, and this year Engineers and Geoscientists BC is introducing a new Account Dashboard. The new dashboard enhances the reporting experience by providing personalized yearly requirements for registrants in a single online view.

In order to keep their Permit to Practice in good standing, registrant firms must annually renew their Permit to Practice by updating the firm’s information and paying a fee by May 31. The Permit to Practice Program has been in effect since July 2, 2021, under the Professional Governance Act.

New resources are available for registrants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their daily practice. The resources provide an overview of the current legislative landscape, as well as technological, procedural, and business opportunities to support registrants in developing and implementing solutions to reduce emissions.

Engineers and Geoscientists BC is partnering with Lead Inclusion Strategist, Erin Davis, on a 3-part series to help registrants develop and advance their equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) skills. The 3 courses explore psychological safety (April 26), unconscious bias (May 30), and activating allyship (June 23).

Now that the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) is under the Professional Governance Act, registrants working in the building industry are advised to familiarize themselves with the new Architects Regulation as some changes may impact their engineering practice.

In a February 23, 2023, Consent Order, Victor Proctor admitted that he engaged in structural engineering work in contravention of the practice restriction set out in his Consent Order with Engineers and Geoscientists BC dated April 5, 2017.  Mr. Proctor’s registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC is cancelled.

This spring, look for improvements and updated requirements to the Continuing Education (CE) Program and Annual Reporting (AR) process. Registrants will see updates to the reporting systems, processes and resources and changes to CE and AR requirements for registrants without practice rights.

Engineers and Geoscientists BC is offering a free Continuing Education (CE) course for registrants interested in exploring how to build an inclusive workplace culture. This 1-hour course will help registrants understand psychological safety, biases, and allyship.

In a January 25, 2023, Consent Order, Sofya Frey admitted that she demonstrated unprofessional conduct relating to the structural engineering services she provided for several residential buildings in Burnaby, BC. Ms. Frey’s registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC is cancelled.
