Multifactor Authentication

This page outlines information regarding multifactor authentication (MFA) for Engineers and Geoscientists BC online account holders, including registrants, applicants, and others.

What You Need to Know

  • Starting October 1, 2025, anyone with an egbc.ca account will be able to enable MFA.
  • MFA is optional for online account holders. Turn it on and off as you like.
  • MFA provides an extra layer of protection for your online account and will help safeguard your account from unauthorized access.
  • MFA is easy to set up and use. After you enable it within your account, you will download an app to your mobile device which will generate a code needed each time you log in.

How to Set Up MFA

(Set up can only be done on or after October 1, 2025)

  1. Before set up, you will need a mobile device that can download an authenticator app.
  2. To set up MFA, you will need to enable it within your account. To do this, log into your egbc.ca account, click “Change your multifactor authentication setting here” on the Update Personal Information page.
  3. On the Security page, in the dropdown, select “Enabled” (to turn on MFA) and click “Save.”
  4. You will be redirected to a screen titled “MOBILE AUTHENTICATOR SETUP”. Follow the prompts to download and set up an authenticator app.

How to Use MFA

After MFA set up, each time you sign into egbc.ca with your User ID and password, you will also need to enter a one-time code that will be found in your authenticator app. Enter the code (when prompted) to complete the login process. Once verified, you can access your account as usual.

Logging In with MFA

Once MFA has been turned on for your egbc.ca account, please follow the steps below to sign in:

  1. Enter your User ID and password as usual.
  2. When asked for a One Time Code, open the authenticator app you set up (e.g., Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator).
    • Note: You won't receive a text message or push notification to your device. You must open the authenticator app yourself each time you log in.
  3. Find the entry for egbc.ca in the app.
  4. Type in the 6-digit One Time Code from your authenticator app.
    • Note: The One Time Code changes every 60 seconds. If the code about to change, please wait and use the next one.
