Engineers and Geoscientists BC

Geoscience Self-Evaluation Checklists

For the three disciplines of geoscience, Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia's academic requirements are aligned with the Geoscientists Canada Knowledge Requirements. Each geoscience self-evaluation checklist lists the topics that are required knowledge in a particular discipline.

When submitting your application for geoscientist-in-training (GIT) or professional geoscientist (P.Geo.), please also submit the corresponding self-evaluation checklist for the discipline of geoscience you are applying in.

Why Use the Self-Evaluation Checklists?

Geoscience Students:

  • Use the checklists to plan your courses in advance so that when you apply for GIT registration, you will be in a better position to meet the academic requirements.

New GIT/P.Geo. Applicants:

  • Use the checklists to compare your academic qualifications to each topic requirement in a particular discipline.

Before Beginning:

General Self-Evaluation Checklists

If you attended a post-secondary institution outside of BC, please use one of the following checklists. Checklists assist in the academic review of your application. The course code for each corresponding topic on the list must match what is listed on your transcript(s). A course can only be used once on the checklist.

BC Institution-Specific Self-Evaluation Checklists

Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia has developed institution-specific course equivalency lists for the following BC universities. A course can only be used once on the checklist. At this time, only equivalency lists for the disciplines of geology and environmental geoscience have been developed. We will continue to update as more lists become available.

Instructions for BC-Specific Checklists
  • Please be aware that the checklists are only for guidance and course codes are subject to change.
  • A course can only be listed one time on the entire checklist.
  • You are not restricted to the course codes indicated in the equivalency lists. If your course code is not listed in the course equivalency list, you can include it in your checklist for consideration.
  • If you are unsure which subject a course may be claimed towards, please choose the most relevant subject and indicate your uncertainty.
  • Courses must be verifiable on your official transcript(s). If you are claiming courses from more than one institution, please clearly indicate the institution name where the course was completed.
