Professional Practice Online Seminar Update

Engineers and Geoscientists BC revised the Professional Engineering and Geoscience Practice in BC Online Seminar for improved relevancy, accessibility, and inclusivity.

The new version of the seminar is named Professional Practice Online Seminar (PPOS) and is now available in the Knowledge Centre. 

Applicants and trainees who completed the previous version of the online seminar prior to October 5, 2026, when the PPOS was released, should take note of the following transition provisions:

  • Applicants and trainees who are not granted registration as a professional registrant before October 1, 2027, are required to complete the revised PPOS prior to registration being granted. The updated PPOS will be provided at no cost to those who purchased previous versions of the online seminar. 
  • The Professional Engineering and Geoscience Practice in BC Online Seminar (Version 2) will be accepted as meeting the seminar requirements for registration as a professional registrant until October 1, 2027.

About the Seminar 

The Professional Practice Online Seminar (PPOS) prepares registrants for professional practice in BC and is one six qualifying requirements that must be completed before professional registration or license can be granted.

The other qualifying requirements are:

  • Academic
  • Experience
  • Character
  • Language, and
  • The Professional Practice Examination

The seminar is composed of 10 modules with a combination of videos, concise reading, case studies, knowledge checks, and interactive activities, providing an engaging and accessible learning platform.

Successful completion of this online seminar is mandatory for all new applicants to Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia as per Bylaw 11(e) (6).

Professional Practice Exam

Please note that registering for the Professional Practice Online Seminar will not automatically register you for the Professional Practice Exam. Please note that this seminar is not a preparatory course for the Professional Practice Exam. Online Seminar Length

The total amount of time it takes to complete the online seminar will vary with each individual, given their learning style; however, it is estimated that it should take approximately four to six (4-6) hours to complete the seminar.

Continuing Education (CE) Hours

Once completed, each participant will receive 9 Continuing Education (CE) hours. Once the participant has completed the online seminar, they will receive an email that details the successful completion including the CE hours they receive. The CE hours will then be automatically uploaded to the participant’s online account.
